By Jack Miller
"How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!'" Romans 10:14-15 ESV
The DC metropolitan area is a rich community—in its people that is. It is a hub for numerous nationalities, languages, cuisines, and artistry. The Fellows program has instilled in us the importance of being active members of our churches and the community. And what a beautiful community we have to explore.
One of my passions is dance—specifically, shuffling. This fast-paced, footwork-intensive style of electronic dance is mesmerizing, in my opinion. Fortunately, the DMV has a strong shuffling community, and I’ve immersed myself in it completely, from Thursday night dance classes to meetups after church. A valuable lesson I am learning from this group is the power of vulnerability. Dance is personal, and expressing it publicly can be daunting. Yet, this community is remarkably supportive and constructive, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie. I encourage all of us to seek out communities with different beliefs, not only is it a biblical calling, but it is often a symbiotic relationship.
Through dance, I have met software engineers, congressional staffers, entrepreneurs, and more. I would have never encountered them otherwise. As I consider these friends, I can’t help but reflect on the verses above. No, I’m not proselytizing during dance sessions, but I can be a witness for Christ simply by living out my faith with authenticity. Christianity, unfortunately, is often misunderstood in American culture, and my hope is to embody the tender heart of our Lord.

About Capital Fellows. Capital Fellows is an advanced leadership and discipleship program for recent college graduates. Through graduate courses, a paid internship, one-on-one mentoring, and many leadership and community service opportunities, fellows develop and apply their gifts in real-world situations while learning to integrate a Christian worldview into all areas of life. Capital Fellows is a unique opportunity to live and work in the Washington DC area and to be an active member of a supportive community that seeks to serve the city with the love of Christ. It is also a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in the workplace while deeply exploring God’s design for us as workers and contributors to human flourishing.
Pray for the Capital Fellows
As the Fellows continue to write more papers and deepen their job search, please pray that they would be strengthened and encouraged that the Lord is near to them. Pray that they would seek His face in the midst of their searching and waiting for what is to come!
